Stress and Biorhythm in saliva
The Salivary Stress and Biorhythm studies are non-invasive functional tests that allow us to assess how the body regulates itself throughout the day (or during the night) by measuring biomarkers in saliva at different time points. Unlike a single determination, this approach offers a dynamic profile of the circadian rhythm and neuroendocrine response, which is key to understanding the body’s state of activation and recovery.
The main marker is cortisol, the central hormone of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, involved in the stress response. Its expected daily pattern (morning peak and progressive decline) provides relevant information on stress load, adaptation, and recovery capacity. Depending on the panel selected, melatonin, which regulates the sleep-wake cycle, may also be included, as well as other complementary indicators such as DHEA and Amylase, which help to contextualize the balance between physiological demand, resilience, and autonomic regulation.
These tests are especially useful in the clinical and functional assessment of:
- Sleep and biorhythm disorders (difficulty falling or staying asleep, daytime sleepiness, schedule changes, jet lag).
- Persistent fatigue, a feeling of “not recovering,” and decreased physical or cognitive performance.
- Sustained stress, irritability, anxiety, and mood changes.
- Monitoring interventions aimed at improving rest, stress management, and recovery.
The result provides an integrated view of the hormonal and circadian profile and can serve as support for personalizing lifestyle recommendations and therapeutic strategies, always within the context of the clinical history and global assessment of each person.
