Extended Alzheimer Profile is a panel of plasma biomarkers aimed at supporting the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative processes. It includes ß-amyloid and phosphorylated tau (p-tau217) as specific markers of amyloid and tau pathology, along with GFAP and neurofilament light (Nf-L) as indicators of astroglial activation and neuroaxonal damage. It contributes to early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative dementias.
- Mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease
- Family history/background
- Specialized preventive assessment
- Evaluation before anti-amyloid therapies
- Nonspecific neurological symptoms
- Suspected unclassified neurodegenerative disease
- pTau217: protein linked to typical Alzheimer’s changes.
- Beta-Amyloid 1-42/1-40 ratio: indirect signal of amyloid deposition in the brain, which usually appears years earlier.
- GFAP: marks the reaction of brain support cells (glia), useful for detecting early changes.
- NF-L: indicates nerve fiber damage; helps estimate intensity/progression.
