The GNT. Alcohol Sensitivity evaluates genetic variants that modulate the conversion of ethanol -> acetaldehyde -> acetate, determining the rate of metabolization and individual tolerance to alcohol. Alterations in these enzymes can favor the accumulation of acetaldehyde, with effects such as facial flushing, discomfort, tachycardia, or greater susceptibility to adverse effects.

Its objective is to provide genetic information to assess the metabolism and adverse effects of alcohol consumption.

  • People who experience facial flushing, nausea, or palpitations with small amounts of alcohol.
  • Evaluation of individual tolerance and susceptibility to adverse effects (e.g., intense hangover, hypotension, discomfort).
  • Support for occupational/sports health or wellness programs where alcohol consumption is relevant.
  • Guidance on lifestyle habits (responsible consumption or avoidance) based on the genetic profile.
  • Integration into multifactorial risk assessments along with other biomarkers and personal/family history.
  • Genes ADH1B and ADH1C (alcohol dehydrogenases).
  • Gene ALDH2 (aldehyde dehydrogenase 2).
