The IgM antibody profile against Borrelia burgdorferi is used in the diagnosis of Lyme disease, an infection transmitted by tick bites. The determination of IgM antibodies allows the detection of the initial immunological response, being especially useful in the early stages of infection.
- Suspicion of Lyme disease in patients with initial symptoms (erythema migrans, fever, fatigue, arthralgia).
- Assessment of recent exposure to Borrelia burgdorferi.
- Support for differential diagnosis in febrile conditions of unknown origin.
